Today was a good day. Eli is continuing to make progress on bottles, but just when we think he's got it down, he reminds us that parenting isn't easy. After two full-bottle feeds, he took less than a third of his bottle at 8:30. Time to reset the bottle counter. Again.
The staff at OPR continue to be amazed at his progress, though. We found out today that he will get his IV line out tomorrow since he is tolerating his feedings. That means we are officially out of his isolette once the line comes out! That means we can finally start dressing our baby in his own clothes! Its one more thing crossed off Eli's to-do list before he can come home.
During rounds today, the practitioner told us she had to double check Eli's file because she couldn't believe how far he's come. We're so fortunate to be in a supportive environment during this entire time. Every time we are on the NICU floor, we feel welcomed and included. It truly feels like a partnership focused on getting our son up to his very best. Outside the hospital, were constantly reminded of how much others are thinking about us as well. From friends sending surprise flowers to the countless text-messages we've received, we're truly appreciative for the enormous amount of support we've had in all of this.
Tomorrow brings a new day with a new set of challenges for Eli. Challenges he will face head-on with his family and an entire network of friends rooting for him.
